  • David Pincus, Ph.D.

I am a Tenured Professor of Clinical Psychology at Chapman University (click here for my academic web-site). But psychotherapy is what I enjoy doing most. I been practicing since 1992, with over 12, 000 hours of supervised hours of training as I obtained my Ph.D. from Marquette University in 2002.  Since then, I have been doing research, supervision, clinician training, and clinical services in private practice. I understand how psychotherapy works; yet each person and situation is unique. My style is down-to-earth and practical.  My job is basically to help you get you where you want to be in life in the simplest and most enduring way that we can find.

I have experience in working with most psychological and social problems, but I specialize in the use of integrative behavioral approaches for anxiety, particularly obsessive-compulsive disorders.  I also have many years of specialized training in marital and family therapies.

  • Anxiety in its general form can include excessive worry, rumination, insomnia, muscle tension, and agitation. Some common associated problems with general anxiety are: (a) specific phobias or fears of things like snakes or spiders; (b) social phobias (fear of judgment, shame or embarrassment); or (c) panic attacks, which are episodes in which the body’s fight or flight mechanisms get miss-triggered.

In most cases, OCD begins with some nasty thought entering our minds, such as being contaminated or contaminating one’s loved ones, hurting ones loved ones in other more violent ways, having one’s sexual orientation suddenly change, or any number of other extremely distressing yet highly creative thoughts.

  • Licensed Psychologist in Orange

Finding high quality psychological help can be difficult, frustrating, and time-consuming.  For most people with health insurance, the best place to begin is by calling the behavioral health line for your insurance provider.  There are three main financial options for psychotherapy: (1) HMO plans generally cover therapists on their contracted panel of providers; (2) PPO plans have a contracted panel of providers but will also reimburse a portion of the costs of treatment for out of network providers; (3) other people choose to forego insurance and pay for treatment out of pocket or to use a health savings account.  Dr. Pincus typically sees people on PPO plans or people who opt to pay for services on their own.

If you have any questions at all, Dr. Pincus is glad to discuss your situation and help link you with your best options. Dr. Pincus shares his practice with Dr. Kristen Kinsfogel http://www.kristenkinsfogelphd.com/new-page-32, to whom he often makes referrals.
